Anatomy

Anatomy deals with the structure of the human body, including its bones ,organs, tissues, anatomical relations, features, and developmental aspects also

It is divided into 4 divisions   1. General Anatomy - Basic anatomical terminology, positions, relations and classifications   2. Gross Anatomy - The main structures like muscles, organs, nerves, blood vessels   3. Embryology- Human development from fertilization to birth. The process of development of organs ,bones, and all structures   4. Histology -The microscopic study of tissues and organs.

General Anatomy

Recommended book: Vishram Singh - Textbook of General Anatomy. Easy to understand and nice diagrams. Another book is BD Chaurasia’s Handbook of General Anatomy.

Gross Anatomy

  • Popular textbooks:
    • Vishram Singh’s Textbook of Human Anatomy
    • B.D. Chaurasia’s Human Anatomy
  • Recommendation: Vishram Singh is recommended, it has clear explanations, illustrations, and mainly clinical correlation boxes.

  • Standard reference: Gray’s Anatomy.   - It has a lot of information,,complex for first-year MBBS students.

However Its illustrations and diagrams can be useful for reference understanding.

Tip : Before purchasing any textbooks, explore their PDFs to understand their presentation and choose the one that suits your learning style.

Embryology •Vishram Singh — Textbook of Clinical Embryology.

Histology

  • I.B. Singh — Textbook of Human Histology.

How to Study Anatomy

Anatomy is a visual and practical subject. Dissection, diagrams, visualization, and  revisions ki zaroorat hai isme Lots of revisions would be required to learn anatomy

Dissection

  • Attend dissection sessions regularly and actively participate in identifying anatomical structures.
  • Anatomy me jitna zyada dekhinge utna hi zyada seekhte,so try to attend and participate in doing dissection

-Observe the structures, their positions, and their relations to surrounding structures.

  • A very Important thing is ,before going to dissection,,read the topic (a day before or just in the morning for 10-15 minutes)and get a basic level of understanding, that will help you to visualise and understand the relations easily.

  • Use atlas apps to visualise and understand the relations

Practice Drawing Diagrams.Diagrams are necessary for anatomy both in understanding and exam point of view.

  • Focus on diagrams ⭐ Diagrams should be easy to draw and understandable,,it has to be easy but relevant also,,Do not try to draw the complex diagrams as in the tb.

Many students try to draw the same diagrams as in tb,,,it will take a lot of time and you will forget them easily.

  • Regular diagram practice karte rehna it helps you present answers more effectively.

Exam oriented study

  • Textbooks contain extensive information to help you develop a thorough understanding of each topic.

  • Starting me you have to read and understand everything because it is new to you guys,,but as you move on you will have to change your strategy.

  • Exams me you cannot write everything on that particular topic ,so you have to read the whole topic to understand and while reading, identify the information that is essential for answering examination questions.

Mainly

  • Definition and introduction
  • Location and extent
  • Parts and features
  • Attachments and relations
  • Blood supply and nerve supply, wherever applicable
  • Important applied anatomy and clinical correlations
  • Applied anatomy or clinical correlations are necessary
  • Relevant diagrams and flowcharts

Histology

Histology ke labs rehte,,starting with basic microscope adjustments and then to the tissues and organs.

  • It is necessary for you to understand how ro adjust the microscope and how to operate it.

  • You will have slides to observe and identify them and then draw them.

  • Histology me alag pencils rehte H and E pencils.

  • Diagrams ke liye must rehte ye pencils, so you have to buy these

Biochemistry

Biochemistry deals with the chemical processes occurring inside the human body. It helps us understand how carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, enzymes, and other substances function in our body and how their abnormalities lead to diseases.

  • Vasudevan — Textbook of Biochemistry for Medical Students: Recommended for understanding concepts and exam preparation.
  • Satyanarayana – Textbook of biochemistry for medical students: Easy to understand and exam oriented book
  • Harper’s Illustrated Biochemistry: A standard reference book for deeper understanding, but it may be difficult to read in detail initially.

How to Study Biochemistry

Biochemistry is a conceptual subject, so try to understand the processes rather than simply memorising them.

  • Focus on understanding the basics first, especially enzymes, metabolism and biochemical reactions.
  • Metabolic pathways are very important. Practise drawing pathways such as glycolysis, the TCA cycle, the urea cycle and the HMP shunt.
  • Make short notes, flowcharts and tables for easier revision.
  • Pay special attention to vitamins, their functions, deficiency diseases and clinical importance.
  • Revise important enzymes, rate-limiting steps, key reactions and associated diseases regularly.

Important Topics:

  1. Carbohydrates and their metabolism
  2. Proteins, amino acids and their metabolism
  3. Lipids and lipid metabolism
  4. Enzymes and their clinical importance
  5. Vitamins and minerals
  6. Molecular biology and genetics
  7. Clinical biochemistry — LFT, RFT, blood glucose, etc.

Exam-Oriented Study

While preparing a topic, focus mainly on:

  • Definition and basic concepts
  • Classification, wherever applicable
  • Functions and important reactions
  • Metabolic pathways with flowcharts
  • Rate-limiting enzymes and key regulatory steps
  • Clinical significance and associated disorders

Clinical correlations are very important because they help you connect biochemical concepts with diseases.

Practical Biochemistry

Attend practical sessions regularly and understand the principle behind each experiment rather than memorising only the procedure.

  • Learn qualitative tests and biochemical investigations.
  • Understand normal values and the clinical significance of common tests.
  • Practise interpreting reports such as LFT, RFT, lipid profile and blood glucose.
  • Prepare practical records and viva questions regularly.

Important Tip: Biochemistry becomes easier when you understand the logic behind each pathway. Don’t try to memorise every reaction at once. Understand the pathway, revise it regularly, and practise writing it from memory. Focus on both concepts and clinical applications rather than studying only for exams.
